Irene Clark Ward is the oldest living daughter of James and Ina
Clark, born on July 5, 1912 in rural Perkins County Georgia of a
Father (James) who  was half white and a  Mother (Ina) who was part
Indian.  Irene was her Father's first daughter (with Ina) and her
Mother's second child;  she had 16 siblings.  While she loved both
her parents, Irene was most influenced by her father.
Irene met her husband of 64 years, Enoch Ward, while she was still a
young school girl.  He was six years older than she.  In 1931, during
the depression, she and Enoch were married.  He worked as a
sharecropper while she attended to their home and worked
occasionally in the cotton fields for additional money.  They had 10
children.

While Enoch had every intention of staying on the farm, the children who had
inherited their grandfather Clark's (and their Mother's) sense of adventure, had other
ideas.....Where Would I Be?, the life and times of Irene Clark Ward is her story.  She
began recording the major events in her life in a journal that she kept until she reached
the age of 88 and could no longer write.  In Where Would I Be?, her youngest daughter
Peggie created a wonderful adaptation of this amazing  matriarch's biography that
reflects her indomitable spirit as she inspired and encouraged her 10 remarkable children
onward and upward to great achievements through the worst of times.
